The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse midsize SUV is here, and it’s better than ever. As the brand’s best-selling midsize SUV, the Traverse has earned a reputation for reliability, versatility, and comfort. But with the latest redesign, Chevrolet has taken the Traverse to new heights.
A Bold New Look
The 2024 Traverse features a new, more rugged look that gives it a more SUV-like appearance. With a taller front end and a more prominent grille, the new Traverse is a head-turner. The 2024 Traverse features four trim levels: the LS, LT, Z71, and RS, each with unique styling accents.
The Midnight/Sport Edition is available on LS and LT trims, while the RS trim has premium and sporty features, including new 22-inch high-gloss black aluminum wheels and unique suspension tuning for sportier ride-and-handling characteristics. The Traverse has two all-new exterior colors: Lakeshore Blue and Harvest Bronze.
The Engine
The Traverse’s new 2.5L turbocharged engine replaces the current 310-hp, 266-lb-ft 3.6-liter V-6. The new engine is estimated to deliver 315 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, a 19% increase in torque over the current model. The new engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is a modified version of GM’s nine-speed. The eight-speed is already in some other vehicles.
The Traverse’s new engine is higher performing and more efficient, making it the perfect choice for those who want a powerful, yet fuel-efficient SUV. The engine’s power is distributed through an all-wheel-drive system that is available on all Traverse trims, including the off-road-capable twin-clutch AWD system unique to the Z71.
The Z71 Model
The Z71 model is the Traverse’s new off-road capable SUV. The Z71 is not just an appearance package. It has a suspension and dampers with hydraulic rebound control that provides an extra inch of ground clearance. The offset of the wheels gives the Z71 a bit wider track—it will be 0.6 inch wider than the other trim levels. The lower front fascia was redone for a better approach angle, while Z71 pedigree demands a metal skid plate and functional red signature tow hooks.
The Z71 also has Terrain Mode, which provides one-pedal driving off-road, as well as hill-descent control. The trailering package is standard on the Z71. The Z71 will have more than 1-inch greater ground clearance along with increased track width for added stability and handling. It will come standard with all-terrain tires and 18-inch wheels designed exclusively for the Z71.
Safety Features
The 2024 Traverse has a suite of new safety features that make it one of the safest midsize SUVs on the market. The Traverse has automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, IntelliBeam high beam assist and front pedestrian and bicyclist braking. The Traverse also has rear cross-traffic braking, blind zone alerts, and steering assist, adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, traffic sign recognition, intersection auto emergency braking, and more.
GM’s hands-free driving technology, Super Cruise, will be available on the 2024 Traverse. The system can make automatic lane changes, and its field of vision covers a trailer. Buckle to Drive is a feature that requires the driver and front passenger to put on their seatbelt before the car can drive. And a rear seatbelt reminder sends an alert if someone in the back unbuckles.
Interior and Technology
The 2024 Traverse has a spacious and sophisticated interior that is perfect for families. The Traverse has a maximum trailering rating of up to 5,000 pounds. The Traverse has multiple flexible second- and third-row configurations. On the LS trim, eight-passenger seating is standard with second- and third-row bench seats. On the LT, Z71, and RS, seven-passenger seating is standard, with the eight-passenger configuration available on the LT trim.
The Traverse’s standard infotainment display screen on the instrument panel is 17.7 inches diagonal, which is 75% larger than the largest available screen in the previous model. There is wireless phone charging with a Wi-Fi hotspot also available; six USB ports are standard. There is also a larger, 11-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center on the new model. Its pass-through console design provides more storage room. Heated front and second-row outboard seats are available, as well as a heated steering wheel and outside mirrors.
Pricing and Availability
The 2024 Traverse midsize SUV will go on sale early next year, and Chevrolet will release its price closer to that time. The Traverse is Chevrolet’s best-selling midsize SUV behind the Equinox. In the first half of this year, GM sold 68,681 Traverses—a 55% gain compared with the year-ago period—and 105,851 Equinox midsize SUVs—a decline of 9.3% compared with the year-ago period.
The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse is the perfect SUV for those who want style, power, and safety in one package. With its new engine, off-road capabilities, and suite of safety features, the Traverse is sure to dominate the midsize SUV market. If you’re looking for a reliable, versatile, and comfortable SUV, the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse is the perfect choice.
